The Division of Learning, Teaching, and Research (LTR) is responsible for all instructional programs of the Las Cruces Public Schools, including summer school. LTR also supports various programs to develop and improve teaching and learning in the district. The Associate Superintendent for Instruction is responsible for the general administration and supervision of this division and is directly responsible to the Superintendent.

In collaboration with teachers and building administrators, LTR has general responsibility for the instructional material adoption process, revision of curriculum guides, approval of all courses offered for credit, and staff development related to curriculum and instruction.

The more specific functions of the division are to 1) develop curriculum aligned to the New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks, 2) monitor implementation of the district’s Educational Plan for Student Success (EPSS) and the school improvement process, 3) develop academic programs to better address the diverse learning needs of students in our schools, 4) provide support for principals and teachers, and 5) assist the Board of Education in the development and review of district policies.

The Associate Superintendent oversees all LTR programs, including elementary instruction, secondary instruction, special education, bilingual education, the visual and performing arts, all federal programs, student health and other support services, professional development, and assessment and accountability.

The Associate Superintendent meets regularly with the superintendent, teachers, principals, coordinators, and directors to improve communication and to articulate instructional programs throughout the district. In addition, the Associate Superintendent works with the New Mexico State University College of Education on programs mutually beneficial to both LCPS and NMSU.
